I am currently recruiting Ph.D. and MS-lev … I am currently recruiting Ph.D. and MS-level graduate students to join the Coastal Eco-Hydrodynamics Laboratory at NC State University starting in Fall 2023. Funding will be available through graduate research, teaching assistantship, and university fellowships. The student assistantship includes a full tuition waiver, stipend, and funds to attend conferences and workshops.

Our research theme centers on coastal eco-hydraulics and eco-morphodynamics. The research topics will focus on the physical mechanisms driving hydrodynamic interactions and geomorphological changes in coastal ecosystems. Our group seeks to develop nature-based solutions to improve management, restoration, and conservation practices to build more resilient coastal communities. Some broad research topics include:
* Environmental hydrodynamics: waves, currents, and turbulence.
* Mixing in coastal environments.
* Oscillatory flows through benthic communities (e.g., vegetation, oyster reefs).
* Coastal sediment transport.

The applicant should have: (i) a background in water resources, civil, environmental, agriculture, mechanical, coastal engineering, or related fields (undergraduate or master’s degree); (ii) ideally, experience in at least one of the following: experimental fluid mechanics or sediment transport, computer programing (Python, R, Matlab), and hydrodynamic modeling; (iii) independent research and teamwork skills; and (iv) strong communication skills.

Prospective students can apply for graduate admission to the CCEE Department at NC State (https://www.ccee.ncsu.edu/academics/graduate-programs/admission/). Interested students are encouraged to contact me at sanjuan@umn.edu to learn more about opportunities for joining our research group.

Cordially,

Jorge

Jorge E.
