This person will undertake collaborative research in the fields of glaciology and mountain hydrology. The successful candidate will develop and apply methods to determine the influence of cryosphere and hydrosphere change on downstream ecosystems in Arctic Canada. They will derive a comprehensive, regionally resolved glacier mass budget assessment for all glaciers in Nunatsiavut and Nunavik, Canada, using a satellite stereo processing pipeline implemented in Google Earth Engine (GEE). They will also utilise cloud computing resources in GEE to determine changes in regional surface water storage and snow cover extent.</br></br> </br></br>The PDRA will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers in the IMAGINE project (Impacts of cryosphere-hydrosphere chAnGe on ecosystems and lIvelihoods in NorthErn Nunatsiavut, Canada), led by Nick Barrand (UK PI) and Robert Way (Canada PI), and including co-investigators and researchers at the Universities of Birmingham and Leeds (UK), Queen's University, University of Waterloo, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Université de Montréal (Canada) https://www.cinuk.org/projects/imagine/. The project is funded through the Canada-Inuit Nunangat-United Kingdom Arctic Research Programme (CINUK, https://www.arctic.ac.uk/research/canada-inuit-nunangat-united-kingdom-arctic-research-programme-2021-2025-cinuk/). The position is fixed term up to December 2024.</br></br> </br></br>The successful candidate will have a strong publication record and both the technical and quantitative skills to deliver innovative science contributing to our project goals. The appointee will be expected to liaise with project investigators and partners in the UK and Canada, undertake remote-sensing and cloud computing-based tasks, contribute to fieldwork activities in the Canadian Arctic (optional), and produce peer-reviewed journal publications along with selected research impact activities. They will demonstrate strong initiative and excellent teamwork skills.
