The project will be based in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering, Imperial College London, South Kensington, and we will work closely with colleagues at University College London. The candidate will work with Gareth Roberts (Imperial), Philip Mannion (UCL) and Yanghua Wang (Imperial) to develop and apply new spectral and other computational techniques. These new techniques will be used to understand the evolution and drivers of the Earth’s surface and their interactions with biodiversity.

We will develop spectral, forward and inverse modeling approaches to understand coevolution of geological, climatic, topographic and biotic processes. Ideal candidates will have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in a quantitative subject and have some experience of writing and developing code. Candidates with a background in the Earth Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Palaeobiology, Macroecology, and other quantitative subjects, are particularly encouraged to apply.

'''You will be required to:'''

* Develop existing and new spectral techniques.
* Work closely with our geophysical, geological and palaeobiological groups.
* Publish work and present results at conferences.
* Where appropriate, supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

'''Essential requirements'''

You should have a completed or be close to completing a PhD with a significant quantitative component. The following is desirable:
* A background in developing and applying code.
* Experience working with geological and palaeobiological data.
* Some knowledge of spectral, inverse and forward modelling.

See also: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/jobs/description/ENG00799/postdoctoral-research-associate-geology-geomorphology-and-palaeobiology/-research-associate-geology-geomorphology-and-palaeobiology/ +
