The Department of Geosciences at Southern … The Department of Geosciences at Southern Utah University (SUU) is seeking a broadly trained Environmental Scientist to join our new Geosciences department. While the position is open rank, we are certainly interested in hiring good candidates at the Assistant Professor level. SUU is a growing University (~13,000 students) located at 6000 feet in Cedar City, in close proximity to several national parks and within the iconic landscapes of the southwest. The position would have a focus on undergraduate education, but there are many opportunities for research and collaboration with students, university colleagues, various government agencies (USGS, USFS, BLM, etc) and rural communities.</br></br></br>More information here (full description below): https://suu.applicantpro.com/jobs/2296659.html (closing date April 27, 2022).</br></br></br></br></br>FULL DESCRIPTION: The Southern Utah University Department of Geosciences is establishing new Environmental degree programs and welcomes applications from a broadly trained environmental scientist to address contemporary issues surrounding the environment and sustainability. We seek a qualified candidate with a Ph.D. from an accredited university for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track position at the assistant/associate/full professor level. We are especially interested in candidates who can complement existing departmental strengths, broaden the scope of expertise among existing faculty, expand the research and teaching opportunities within the department, and support the continued growth of our undergraduate programs. Priority will be given to applicants with expertise in environmental science, sustainability, human dimensions of climate change, resource management, and/or environmental conservation. Applicants should demonstrate a potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, active engagement in undergraduate research and scholarship, and a commitment to public higher education.</br></br>Housed within the Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Sciences, the Department of Geosciences emphasizes experiential learning through dynamic course design, undergraduate research, and faculty mentorship. SUU's location in Cedar City, surrounded by national parks and extensive state and federal public lands, and located within the unique cultural region that is rural southern Utah, provides faculty and students with endless opportunities to develop unique and creative research projects. The successful applicant will describe possible research related to his or her area of interest, and which takes advantage of the university's location in southern Utah, including the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin. SUU supports integrative, interdisciplinary collaboration and facilitates access to a variety of internal and external funding sources.</br></br>SUU is part of the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) and has more than 13,000 students on a residential campus. The university competes in Division I athletics within the NCAA Big Sky conference. University faculty and student support organizations and activities include the Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (CETL), the annual Festival of Excellence, the Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Science Research Symposium, the Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Program (UGRASP), the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI), Allies on Campus, and the Care and Support Team (CAST). Cedar City, situated 3.5 hours South of Salt Lake City and 2.5 hours North of Las Vegas, Nevada, is surrounded by an extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails, and is home to Utah's Shakespeare Festival and the Southern Utah Museum of Art. SUU's outstanding outdoor laboratory encompasses five national parks, nine national monuments, numerous state parks, and extensive federal public lands within Utah, and several national parks and monuments in surrounding states, all of which are within a day's drive of Cedar City.</br></br></br></br></br>Erich R.
