I am currently recruiting creative graduat … I am currently recruiting creative graduate students interested in coastal hydrodynamics and hydrology to join my research group at Louisiana State University (Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences: http://www.lsu.edu/cce/graduate/docs/index.php). I have two funded positions (stipend + tuition): a PhD assistantship (up to 5 years of funding) and an MS assistantship (2 years of funding). Both positions will be funded by NSF. Applications will be accepted right away and the positions will remain open until filled with anticipated start dates of Fall 2022 (Spring 2023 may be okay). The project addresses an urgent need in hydrology to understand how hydrological process evolve in non-stationary ecosystems. To do this, we will investigate how water transport patterns and timescales evolve as a function of long-term morphological change and short-term hydrodynamic perturbations in river deltas. Field work, numerical modeling, and network analysis/graph theory will primarily be used to solve these problems and I am open to fun, creative approaches driven by students.</br></br></br>My group works to understand how water transport and hydraulic connectivity affect ecology (algal blooms, nutrients, etc.) and morphological development (e.g., deltaic growth) in coastal environments. We use field work and numerical modeling in our research projects. We also build cool hydraulics experiments to share with students at Baton Rouge Schools, which is super fun. Experience with field work, programming (Matlab or other languages), or numerical modeling is a plus.
