Finding a safe operating space for humanki … Finding a safe operating space for humankind requires understanding how the Earth system reacts to environmental perturbations. Motivated by this need, the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Southern California seeks exceptional researchers for a tenure-track faculty position(s) at the assistant professor level in the area of global environmental change (broadly defined). We welcome applications from scholars investigating environmental perturbations and their effects using observations (in situ or remotely-sensed), modeling, theory, and/or experiments. We are particularly interested in candidates studying the atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere and/or biosphere, including their interactions and evolution, as well as their connections to the solid Earth.</br></br></br>The successful candidate(s) will join a multidisciplinary department with strong ties to the Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies, as well as the LA County Natural History and La Brea Tar Pits museums. Located in central Los Angeles, USC serves a transnational student body and provides numerous opportunities to engage the local community in research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to teach in the Department of Earth Sciences, with opportunities to contribute to a growing curriculum in environmental science.
