Dear all,
My department at Umeå Universit … Dear all,

My department at Umeå University (northern Sweden) has an open position for an Associate Professor in Earth Science with teaching responsibilities including Quaternary geology/geomorphology, hydrology/hydrogeology and soil science. The research focus can be in any related field and it’s advantageous if the applicant can show that their research complements current research at the department with potential collaboration points. A geomorphologist from any sub-discipline could fit into the department’s research profile (https://www.umu.se/en/department-of-ecology-and-environmental-science/research/). Umeå, the largest city in northern Sweden with a vibrant population of ~130,000, is located at almost 64° N and is well-situated for arctic and sub-arctic research.

See the announcement and application procedure here : https://umu.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:371501/?token=90c216b0c745c897c17e591db399e441

Application deadline: February 15, 2021

Further details: Sweden’s academic career system is slightly different than in some other countries. An associate professor (universitetslektor) position is a permanent position that one is usually merited for at least ~4-9 yrs post PhD. With an associate professor position, one can eventually be promoted to ‘professor’ (full professor) once eligible (including being the main advisor for at least 2 PhD students). This position guarantees 50% research time for the first three years, after which one can apply for 25-75% research time from the faculty of science & technology. The position includes teaching in English & Swedish but for non-Swedish speakers, you must be prepared to be able to teach in Swedish after 2 years. Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about the department, university, or working/living in Sweden.

Best, Lina

lina.polvi@umu.se/living in Sweden.
