The Hydrosystems Research Group at UMass AThe Hydrosystems Research Group at UMass Amherst is seeking Postdoctoral Research Scientists to conduct research in the development of computational tools to assist adaptation to climate change, primarily in the integrated water resources and urban water supply systems. The postdoctoral researcher(s) will join an active group of faculty, post-docs and graduate students engaged in research projects funded by a variety of agencies and foundations. Research applications will focus on the development of adaptation principles for evaluation of investments and new technology designed for urban water system resilience and basin scale water management. Locations include major urban areas in the Americas and Africa. The ideal candidate will have highly developed skills in 1) data science and machine learning with strong computational skills and preferably experience with cloud computing and/or 2) machine learning applications to subseasonal to seasonal climate forecasting or climate change projection. Other research specializations broadly related to water resources and systems analysis will be considered. </br></br>Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a related field, including but not limited to civil and environmental engineering, systems analysis, data and information science, or hydroclimatology. Skills in programming and data management, knowledge of statistical methods, ability to write scientific papers and project reports, and ability to travel to project research meetings and give scientific presentations at national or international meetings are necessary. The positions will initially be for one year and may be extended, dependent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding. </br></br>The successful candidate(s) will be supervised by Dr. Casey Brown (casey@umass.edu).
