Postdoc in fluvial modeling at USGS Grand … Postdoc in fluvial modeling at USGS Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center </br></br></br>The U.S. Geological Survey Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center in cooperation with the USGS Geomorphology and Sediment Transport Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on sediment transport and morphodynamic modeling in large rivers with application to planning for environmental flows and river restoration. We are looking for an energetic and talented scientist with strong computing and analytical skills and experience with numerical modeling. Experience with field or laboratory work and scientific instrumentation is also desired. The candidate should possess a PhD in the Geosciences or Engineering, have a strong publishing record, and have research interests in morhphodynamic modeling and fluvial geomorphology. </br></br></br>The position will initially focus on developing a suite of new sediment transport and morphodynamic models for the Colorado River in Grand Canyon that build on existing models and take advantage of newly available topographic, bathymetric, and sediment transport data. Particular focus will be on the development of novel methods for simulating fine sediment pulses and sand waves in large non-alluvial rivers. The postdoctoral researcher will work as part of a collaborative team that includes Paul Grams, Jonathan Nelson, Scott Wright, David Topping, and Erich Mueller. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year and may be extended for up to 4 years. The position will be stationed at the Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center in Flagstaff, Arizona with some time spent at the Geomorphology and Sediment Transport Laboratory in Golden, Colorado.
