For Section 4.7 Earth Surface Process Mode … For Section 4.7 Earth Surface Process Modelling, we are seeking a postdoctoral research scientist to develop numerical models of debris flow initiation and integrate them into a landscape evolution model. The postdoctoral research scientist will focus on parameterizing and validating models of different debris flow initiation mechanisms (e.g., firehose effect and bank failure). They will then work with a collaborative team to incorporate these initiation processes into models of debris-flow erosion and deposition. Depending on the candidate's background and interests, the project could also involve applying the model to different study sites and examining the influence of climate and tectonics on the frequency and magnitude of debris-flow activity.</br></br>Previous debris flow or sediment transport-focused research experience would be an asset but is not strictly required, and we encourage potential candidates with differing backgrounds to apply. The successful candidate should have the vision and ability to participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research activities and discussions within our research group and with local and international collaborators. </br></br>Researchers in the Earth Surface Process Modelling section work on a broad range of themes and come from widely different backgrounds.
