The University of Alabama is the home of t … The University of Alabama is the home of the National Water Center. The second annual Water Policy Summit will be held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama April 5-6, 2018 at the National Water Center and the Bryant Conference Center. It is a first-of-its-kind facility that leverages the ubiquitous data, robust science, and societal drivers to support informed policy making on water resource issues from the national to the local scale. The Water Policy Summit will bring nationally recognized experts together. The summit will include focused sessions on various topics such as water policies, water law, climate change, hydrology, assessments and much more. The theme of this year's summit is Community Resiliency: Summit to Sea.. Panels will address issues that involve coastal water policy, coastal science, ground water, climate change, adaptation and resiliency, and hydrologic extremes. Continuing education credit will be offered to engineers, geologists, and attorneys. </br>While the shoreline accounts for less than 10 percent of the land area, approximately 39 percent of the US population lives on or near it, and there is a growing trend of people migrating towards the coast. In addition to potentially impacting ecologically sensitive regions, coastal populations are also susceptible to storms and other hydro-meteorological extremes.
