The Role We are seeking a mid-career to seThe Role</br>We are seeking a mid-career to senior Engineering Geologist or Engineering Geomorphologist, specialising in soil mechanics, ground behaviour and stability (e.g. liquefaction), and landslide processes to undertake a range of research and consultancy projects relating to ground deformation and landslide hazards and their associated risks.</br></br>You will have:</br>A MSc or PhD in Engineering Geology, Engineering Geomorphology, or Civil Engineering discipline (or equivalent qualification)</br>5-15 years’ experience in Engineering Geology, Engineering Geomorphology, or Civil Engineering research and/or consulting</br></br>Essential skills or experience in:</br>Ability to secure funding for, design, lead, and undertake laboratory experiments to measure the strength properties of soil or soft-rock materials to research the failure mechanisms of ground materials (e.g. liquefaction) and hillslopes (e.g. landslides).</br>Experience working in engineering geological/geomorphological research and/or consulting related to the failure mechanisms of ground materials (e.g. liquefaction) and hillslopes (e.g. landslides).</br></br>Desirable skills or experience in:</br>Experience supervising technicians and/or other staff to undertake laboratory experiments.</br>Ability to lead and/or contribute to small and large scale multi-disciplinary teams to deliver research focused projects.</br>Ability to support and deliver consultancy projects on Engineering Geology, Engineering Geomorphology issues to a variety of public and commercial sector clients.</br>Field-based skills in engineering geological and/or geomorphological mapping, sampling, and site investigation.</br>Experience with geo-spatial, statistical, or stability modelling packages for engineering geology and/or landslide science applications</br>A willingness to work with Iwi/Maori groups and organisations to build relationships with the aim of facilitating Maori development</br></br>In addition, the preferred candidate should have:</br>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in report writing and leading/ co-authoring scientific journal articles</br>A flexible and adaptable team player mentality</br>Good time management and organisational skills</br>Strong problem-solving skills</br></br>On top of the technical skills required, you’ll also need to work independently, apply initiative as well as take instruction from a range of staff, have high levels of energy and drive and want to work for a changing and evolving organisation.</br></br>This position is a permanent, full time (38 hours per week) role and will be based in New Zealand at our site in Lower Hutt, Wellington.</br></br>Benefits</br>People come from all over the world to work for GNS Science.
