Conference objectives and general description

The CSDMS Meeting 2010 will bring together CSDMS members to present new scientific insights in the modeling of surface dynamics and environmental change, new advances in cyber-infrastructure, development and use of CSDMS models in education, and to allow the CSDMS Working and Focus Research Groups to engage in cross-domain discussions. Our Modeling for Environmental Change meeting theme will address state-of-the art ice, earth and ocean modeling, advances in the use of the CSDMS Model-coupling Tool, high performance computing projects, and will offer short clinics on EKT products. Importantly, the meeting is designed to have members strategize on the direction of CSDMS for the next 5 years (i.e. revised CSDMS Strategic Plan and CSDMS 5 yr renewal).

Themes

  1. Keynote lectures and Poster Sessions on Surface Dynamics Modeling, Cross-domain Model Coupling, Geodynamics, Ecodynamics, and Morphodynamics modeling.
  2. Clinics to learn more about individual models, model coupling and EKT products.
  3. Break-out group discussions on cross-domain model coupling.
  4. Working Group and Plenary discussions to develop 5-year strategic plan.
  5. Towards practical applications and modeling for environmental changes.

Conference set up

The 4 day conference (October 14th-17th) will be set up such that it is enjoyable for your spouse as well. Only 1 joint dinner is scheduled (inform us when you register if your spouse/partner wants to attend) and enough time is scheduled for lunch breaks to enjoy a meal in one of the many nearby restaurants. An abundance of activities in or nearby San Antonio such as: a) McNay Art Museum, b) San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, c) River Walk, d) SeaWorld, e) Botanical Gardens and Conservatory, f) Zoo, and many other activities are available. Watch this 60 second video to learn more about what San Antonio has to offer. A more complete agenda of the conference will be posted later.

Registration, Abstract submission and Travel Support
