Model Description
| Model type: | Modular model for the terrestrial. |
| Description: | I am developing a recent adaptation of CAM 3.0 that has been converted to Titan by Friedson et al. at JPL. I am adding the aerosol microphysics from CARMA. |
Technical information
| Supported platforms: | Mac OSX |
| Programming language: | Fortran77, Fortran90 |
| Model development started at: | Model development still takes place. |
| To what degree will the model become available: | Source code will be available |
| Current license type: | -- |
| Memory requirements: | Large |
| Typical run time: | varies greatly |
Input / Output description
| Input parameters: | -- |
| Input format: | ASCII |
| Output parameters: | -- |
| Output format: | Netcdf files |
| Post-processing software (if needed): | No |
| Visualization software (if needed): | Yes, IDL |
Process description
| Processes represented by model: | CAM treats radiative transfer, tidal forcing from Saturn, a planetary boundary layer and surface interaction, thermal conduction in the soil and chemistry. The CARMA part of the code does the aerosol microphysics involving emission, coagulation and sedimentation. |
| Key physical parameters & equations: | -- |
| Length scale & resolution constraints: | Currently there are only initial data sets for 10x15 degrees longitude and latitude. This model is meant for global scale dynamics. |
| Time scale & resolution constraints: | I am running the model with dynamical time steps of 1800 seconds, but it only computes the radiative transfer every 200 timesteps. |
| Numerical limitations and issues : | This is a large model that takes significant computing resources to spin up run. |
Testing
| Available calibration data sets: | -- |
| Available test data sets: | -- |
| Ideal data for testing: | -- |
User groups
| Currently or plans for collaborating with: | I am collaborating with Jim Friedson and Bob West at JPL and Erika Barth at SWRI, as well as my adviser, Brian Toon. |
