SedBerg: iceberg-rafted sedimentation
Ruth Mugford and Julian Dowdeswell of Scott Polar Research Institute, UK, developed SedBerg. SedBerg stochastically simulates glacier front calving, and subsequently model iceberg drift trajectories in a fjord under influence of wind and tidal forcing. The drifting icebergs slowly melt under influence of solar radiation and warm ocean water, and release basal and englacial sediment they are carrying to the seafloor. This model aims to increase our understanding of sediments on the seafloor, which are an indispensable record of glaciological response to past climate variations.
