Model description

Model type: Modular model for the coastal domain.
Description: Xbeach is a two-dimensional model for wave propagation, long waves and mean flow, sediment transport and morphological changes of the nearshore area, beaches, dunes and backbarrier during storms. It is a public-domain model that has been developed with funding and support by the US Army Corps of Engineers, by a consortium of UNESCO-IHE, Delft Hydraulics, Delft University of Technology and the University of Miami.

Supported platforms: Linux, Windows
Programming language: Fortran90
Model was developed started from: 2006 and development still takes place
To what degree will the model become available: As code and as an executable
Current license type: LGPL
Memory requirements: Flexible
Typical run time: hours

Input / Output description

Input parameters: rectilinear grid, bathymetry, boundary spectral parameters, water levels, sediment sizes, model parameters
Input format: ASCII
Output parameters: wave heights, velocities, water levels, sediment concentrations, sediment transport rates, bottom changes, bathymetry, additional model variables
Output format: Binary
