Model description

Model type: Modular model for the marine domain.
Description: --

Technical information

Supported platforms: Linux
Programming language: Fortran77 & 90
Model was developed started from: 1993 and development still takes place
To what degree will the model become available: As code
Current license type: --
Memory requirements: A few Gb
Typical run time: A few days for annual runs

Input / Output description

Input parameters: wind, air temperature, humidity, pressure, solar and infrared radiation. Oceanic fields from OGCM for initial and boundary conditions
Input format: Binary
Output parameters: temperature, salinity, current 3D fields. Air/sea fluxes
Output format: Binary, NetCDF
Post-processing software (if needed): no
Visualization software (if needed): yes, software developed by the group. Can also be processed by the ROMS tools via Matlab

Process description

Processes represented by model: Free surface, generalized s coordinate model. Classical representation of oceanic processes (tides, wind circulation, density driven circulation ...). Coupling with sediment transport and biogeochemistry
Key physical parameters & equations: Primitive equations.Non hydrostatic version available.

Sediment transport : cohesive (Partheniades) and non cohesive (Smith and Mac Lean). Biogeochemistry : cycle of C,N,P,Si

Length scale & resolution constraints: --
Time scale & resolution constraints: CFL criterium
Numerical limitations and issues : --

Testing

Available calibration data sets: Validation was done using several fields experiment (see publications on http://poc.obs-mip.fr/pages/research_topics/modelling/symphonie/symphonie.htm#publi)
Available test data sets: For example : Test of the non-hydrostatic version with water tank experiments.
Ideal data for testing: --

User groups

Currently or plans for collaborating with: we have collaborations with people from the field and modellers which use our model
