Metadata

Also known as River Mussel-Sediment Interaction Model
Model type Single
Model part of larger framework
Note on status model
Date note status model
Incorporated models or components:
Spatial dimensions 1D
Spatial extent Reach-Scale
Model domain Terrestrial, Hydrology, Ecosystems
One-line model description Simulates freshwater mussel populations' response to changes in suspended sediment
Extended model description This model simulates the interaction between suspended sediment, chlorophyll-a, and mussel population density. Discharge is the driver; it modulates suspended sediment and its interactions in the system. The model is suitable for simulating mussel densities at-a-site. It was originally developed to test the hypothesis that increased sediment loads in Minnesota Rivers are a plausible cause of observed mussel population declines. The model and results are described in detail in the following paper: https://doi.org/10.1086/684223
Keywords:

mussels, Matlab, suspended sediment, chlorophyll, anthropogenic impact,

Describe processes represented by the model See the associated published paper: https://doi.org/10.1086/684223
Describe key physical parameters and equations See the associated published paper: https://doi.org/10.1086/684223 and the readme file for parameter descriptions.
Describe length scale and resolution constraints Spatial scale is implicit; resolution is n/a.
Describe time scale and resolution constraints Model constructed for daily time steps, but can be altered with little effort.
Describe any numerical limitations and issues None known; the model requires very little computational expense.

Describe available calibration data sets See readme file and the associated published paper: https://doi.org/10.1086/684223.

Calibration must be performed on a site-by-site basis; the provided data do not permit calibration for our sites, but we do include the calibrated parameters and explain our methods.

Upload calibration data sets if available:
Describe available test data sets
Upload test data sets if available:
Describe ideal data for testing

Do you have current or future plans for collaborating with other researchers? This was an effort by a team that no longer works together closely as a whole, although we collaborate in other arenas. As far as I know, there are no current plans to collaborate regarding this model, although it has been shared with various researchers for their projects.
Is there a manual available? No
