Model description
Model type: | Single model for the coastal domain. |
Description: | This is a 1DV wave-phase resolving numerical model for fluid mud transport based on mixture theory. The model incorporates turbulence-sediment interaction, gravity-driven flow, mud rheology, bed erodibility and the dynamics of floc break-up and aggregation. |
Technical information
Supported platforms: | Linux, Windows |
Programming language: | Fortran77 |
Model was developed started from: | 2005 and development still takes place |
To what degree will the model become available: | As code |
Current license type: | -- |
Memory requirements: | ~2MB |
Typical run time: | Few hours |
Input / Output description
Input parameters: | Measured or artificially generated wave and current forcing. Floc diameter, density. Downslope gravity. Vertical grid mesh. Erodibility. Parameters for Bingham rheology. |
Input format: | ASCII |
Output parameters: | Major quantities: mud floc concentration, flow velocity in longshelf and cross-shelf direction. Other quantities: TKE, turbulent dissipation rate, floc size (if floc dynamics turn on), bottom stress. |
Output format: | ASCII |
Post-processing software (if needed): | Yes, Typical Matlab or Excell plotting |
Visualization software (if needed): | Yes, Matlab |
Process description
Processes represented by model: | wave-current boundary layer and fluid mud transport. dilute suspension. wave-supported gravity-driven mudflow. turbulence modulation due to sediment. tidal-driven fluid mud transport. Floc dynamics. Rheology. |
Key physical parameters & equations: | mixture equations (derived from two-phase theory with fine sediment assumption). k-epsilon closure derived from two-phase theory. Bingham rheology. Floc property is based on fractal structure. Bottom boundary condition for mud is based on type I erosion. |
Length scale & resolution constraints: | Wave-current BL, lengthscale ~1 m nearbed, grid size ~1mm; Tidal BL: lengthscale 10 m, grid size 1cm |
Time scale & resolution constraints: | Wave-current BL: timescale ~10 min; time step ~0.01 sec; Tidal BL: timescale days and time step 10 s |
