Model description

Model type: Single model for the terrestrial, coastal and marine domain.
Description: 3D basin-scale stratigraphic model

Technical information

Supported platforms: Unix, Linux
Programming language: C, C_plus, QT
Model was developed started from: 1992 and development still takes place
To what degree will the model become available: As teaching tool, as an executable
Current license type: --
Memory requirements: 256 MB
Typical run time: 1 minutes to 1 day

Input / Output description

Input parameters: Stratigraphic parameters : basin deformation(eustatic curve, subsidence maps, compaction, flexure), supply (boundary conditions, rain fall, carbonate production), transport (waves, water and gravity transport, slope failure)
Input format: ASCII
Output parameters: 3D grid of the simulated basin (cartesian grid), + properties (depositional bathymetry, lithology, facies, porosity, ...)
Output format: ASCII
Post-processing software (if needed): no
Visualization software (if needed): no

Process description

Processes represented by model: Erosion, transport and deposition of sediments (terrestrial -> deep-marine). Carbonate production. Complex tectonics (growth faults, salt deformation).
Key physical parameters & equations: Water-driven diffusion equation for transport.

Erosion controlled by water flow and shear stress. Carbonate production function of water depth, wave energy, ecology. Complex tectonics are user-defined geometrical deformation.

Length scale & resolution constraints: length : 10s - 100s of kilometers

resolution : 1 km

Time scale & resolution constraints: time scale : 10s of ky - 100s of My

resolution : some kyr.
