Metadata

Also known as CMIP-temp
Model type Tool
Model part of larger framework permafrost toolbox
Note on status model
Date note status model
Incorporated models or components:
Spatial dimensions 2D
Spatial extent Continental
Model domain Climate, Cryosphere
One-line model description Data component provides monthly mean temperature for Permafrost Region 1902-2100
Extended model description Data component processed from the CRU-NCEP Climate Model Intercomparison Project - 5, also called CMIP 5. Data presented include the mean annual temperature for each gridcell, mean July temperature and mean January temperature over the period 1902 -2100. This dataset presents the mean of the CMIP5 models, and the original climate models were run for the representative concentration pathway RCP 8.5.

Describe input parameters This data component serves as input climate data for components in the permafrost toolbox. It requires specification of time period, time step (monthly), and of grid dimensions.

To set the grid to a desired region

x=25 means 25 degrees east of the international date line
y=37 means 37 degrees south of the north pole

(30 by 23) means a grid that is "30 degrees E/W by 23 degrees N/S"

Input format ASCII
Other input format
Describe output parameters The component provides monthly temperature data in degrees Celcius. Within the CSDMS framework, the component generates an NetCDF file of a stacked grid of monthly temperatures over the specified region.
Output format Binary

Describe processes represented by the model Air surface temperature as simulated from coupled atmosphere-ocean global climate models
Describe key physical parameters and equations The original dataset was created by the
Describe length scale and resolution constraints The grid is 720 wide by 360 high, thus it a half degree resolution.
Describe time scale and resolution constraints Data covers 1901 to 2100.

It is processed from the original data to comprise a monthly timescale.
