Three Fully Funded Ph.D. Positions in Hydroinformatics at Clemson University
Clemson University, South Carolina, United States
Apply before: 26 February 2024

Hydrosystem and Hydroinformatics Research (HHR; http://ssamadi.com/Home.html) group at Clemson University is seeking to hire three Ph.D. students in the areas of hydroinformatics from water system engineering to irrigation informatics to water cyberinfrastructure education programs. All selected candidates will be admitted to the Agricultural Sciences- System Management program. The selected candidates will have opportunities for overseas study visits or short internships at recognized universities in Europe. Financial support to attend national and international conferences and meetings will be also provided. Each position is described separately. Please mention in your cover letter which position you are interested in. Three Ph.D. positions are described as follows:
  • Ph.D. Position 1- Water System Software Development: This position focuses on addressing water system management by integrating data engineering systems with traditional and machine learning approaches. The selected candidate is expected to create and develop C++ programs. The new C++ program will be engineered to address a range of water system challenges.
  • Ph.D. Position 2- Irrigation Informatics: This position focuses on developing irrigation hydrology and data-driven models to address crop water use at a farm system. As part of this Ph.D. program, the selected candidate will spend 3-6 months at the Edisto Research and Education Center (EREC) to collect irrigation field data. The selected candidate will work closely with an irrigation specialist at EREC.
  • Ph.D. Position 3-Water Cyberinfrastructure Education: This position focuses on cybertraining and hydroinformatics education and curriculum development to train early career faculty, postdocs, and graduate and undergraduate students. The selected candidate will work closely with faculty and researchers at Clemson University, CUAHSI (https://www.cuahsi.org/), and the University of Iowa (https://uiowa.edu/) to develop new educational tools and programs.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants who have a master’s degree in Civil Engineering-Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, or Agricultural Water Engineering and have previous experience working with Python, C++, & Java are strongly encouraged to apply.
