Politecnico di Torino is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Post-Doctoral Researcher to join our research team for a one-year renewable position (gross annual salary of 22000 €, meaning about 1620€/month netto). The successful candidate will play a key role in the PRIN-funded research project (Clim2FlEx - Mapping of climate to flood extremes) focused on developing a modeling chain for flood simulation on a regional scale (Greater Alpine Region). Together with climatologists from ISAC-CNR and University of Turin, we aim to better understand what are the large-scale predictors of climate extremes that are relevant to river floods and their change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up a continuous conceptual rainfall-runoff model for several catchments in the Greater Alpine Region.
  • Use the model to identify and characterise observed and simulated flood events both at the local (catchment) and at the regional scale.
  • Identify the climate indices most correlated to the indices of flood extremes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams, participating to meetings with fellow climate modellers in the project.


  • Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Hydrology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Geography, Statistics, or related disciplines).
  • Background in numerical modeling and programming.
  • Experience in hydrology and hydrological modelling.
  • Proficiency in scientific software and data analysis tools.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English (knowledge of Italian is a plus).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
