Hydrology Focus Research Group

Introduction

Welcome to the CSDMS Hydrology Focus Research Group (FRG) page. The Hydrology FRG is a research group (currently 968 members), that is additionally co-sponsored by CUAHSI, the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. Our goal is to provide input to the CSDMS effort on how to best represent hydrological processes and models within CSDMS. Another role that the Hydrology FRG will play is to facilitate links to other community hydrologic modeling activities, including those led by CUAHSI. We welcome your participation in the Hydrology FRG, and invite you to join at the link below.

Our first meeting was held on January 20th and 21st, 2009, at the CSDMS Integration Facility in Boulder, Colorado. For information about the January 2009 meeting visit: Hydrology_FRG_2009

AGU special session: Consider submitting an abstract before August 6th to the following AGU sessions:

H051. Innovation in hydrology through the design, development, and use of community technologies and resources
Convenors:
Jonathan Goodall, Jennifer Arrigo, Christopher Duffy, Scott Peckham
Description:
Many grand challenges problems facing the hydrologic community will require sophisticated technologies and resources that are beyond the scope of individual investigators. The design, development, and use of these community technologies and resources will be an important factor in advancing innovation in hydrology over the coming decades. We seek submissions broadly aimed at advancing hydrology through the design, development, and use of community tools and technologies. Possible topics include building community data resources for hydrologic modeling, designing integrated observational and modeling systems, and the use of community technologies and resources for hydrologic analysis.

IN019. Future of Hydroinformatics in Access, Visualization, and Analysis of Large Scale Hydrological Data
Convenors:
Ibrahim Demir, Witold Krajewski
Description:
Recent advances in observational and computational technologies have created the opportunity for major advances in hydrological and atmospheric sciences. New web technologies, high performance computing, and cyber-infrastructure have provided the capability to make predictions at a wide range of space and time scales. Emerging informatics tools and cyber-infrastructure systems will be key technological tools to improve modeling and information communication. This session encourages presentations and discussions related to following topics:1. Large scale data set management and sharing2. High performance computing and community modeling3. Information visualization and communication.
