Fall 2026 PhD Student Opportunity in Environmental Flow High-performance Computing at UConn CEE
University of Connecticut (UConn), Connecticut, United States
Apply before: 1 January 2026

Seeking one PhD Student to Join UConn CEE Environmental Flow Computing Lab in Fall 2026 semester

We have opening for one PhD student (Graduate Research Assistant) within the Environmental Flow Computing Lab let by Prof. Li at the University of Connecticut, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The position focuses on Environmental Flow High-performance Computing. Keywords include Environmental Fluid Mechanics, Watershed Hydrology, Solute Transport, Sediment Transport, Turbulence in Open-Channel Flows, Computational Fluid Dynamics, High-Performance Computing.

We encourage candidates with these background/qualifications to apply:

  • Have completed courses such as Fundamental/Advanced Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulic Engineering, Open-channel Flow, Engineering Hydrology.
  • Hold stronger curiosity with the physical processes themselves (e.g., boundary layer turbulence) than the outcomes as signals (e.g., flow discharge time series).
  • Write Python/C/C++ codes (with AI’s assistance or not) for scientific purposes at daily to weekly basis in the past two years.
  • (recommended) Hold a master’s degree in engineering or geosciences with some publication records.
  • (recommended) Know CUDA C/C++ programming at entry to intermediate level.

To apply:

  • Step 1: Email your interest, your CV, and BS/MS transcripts to Prof. Li.
  • Step 2: Wait for a confirmation email for interview if selected to the short list.
