Model description
Model type: | Single model for the terrestrial, coastal and marine domain. |
Description: | Another derivative of the original SEDSIM, completely rewritten from scratch. It uses finite differences (in addition to the original particle-cell method) to speed up steady flow calculations. It also incorporates compaction algorithms. A general description has been published. |
Technical information
Supported platforms: | Windows |
Programming language: | C_plus |
Model was developed started from: | 2001 and was finished in 2006 |
To what degree will the model become available: | Not |
Current license type: | -- |
Memory requirements: | 2GB |
Typical run time: | 20 minutes |
Input / Output description
Input parameters: | Initial topography. Initial subsurface layering, if any. |
Input format: | ASCII |
Output parameters: | Free-surface flow and wave action through time. Erosion and deposition through time. |
Output format: | ASCII |
Post-processing software (if needed): | no (Post processing not needed, but important for visualization and data conversion). |
Visualization software (if needed): | yes, Proprietary |
Process description
Processes represented by model: | Free-surface flow including wave action

Key physical parameters & equations: | Shallow-water equations for fluid flow Separate equations for wave propagation Shield's criterion and transport capacity criterion for clastic transport (similar to SEDSIM) Sigle-phase flow in porous media for vertical and 3D compaction options. |
Length scale & resolution constraints: | From a few hundred m to a few hundred Km |
Time scale & resolution constraints: | From seconds to about 100,000 years. |
Numerical limitations and issues : | Can be very slow in complex systems. |
Testing
