CEE Faculty Positions at University of Iowa
University of Iowa, Iowa, United States
Start reviewing process: 2 December 2022

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa invites applications for two tenure-track, open-rank faculty positions to begin August 2023. We are seeking applications in the strategic excellence focus on Engineering in the Environment as part of the College of Engineering’s Strategic Hiring Initiative aimed to increase the number of tenure-track faculty members by 20 over the next five years. We are considering applications in all areas of environmental engineering represented by our department, and are particularly interested in applicants working in the broad area of hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources, including hydrologic remote sensing, hydrologic modeling and prediction, hydroinformatics, and sustainable and resilient water resources infrastructure.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is a vibrant, collegial, research-active department with 19 tenure-track faculty, 250 undergraduate students, and 70 graduate students. The department is centrally located in the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences which enables frequent and regular opportunities for engagement with students, faculty, and staff throughout the College of Engineering. CEE has an established global reputation for research innovation and holds leadership positions within several college-wide research units, particularly at IIHR Hydroscience and Engineering, the Iowa Flood Center, and the Center for Hydrologic Development. These centers help fuel a highly interdisciplinary research enterprise across campus.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research program, to participate in the teaching and service missions of the department, and to follow The University of Iowa’s strong tradition of collaboration across disciplinary boundaries. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication, teaching and leadership skills, as well as an ability to actively contribute to our vibrant department. A strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching and advising is essential, as the supervision of doctoral students and academic advising of trainees at all levels is expected. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in and development of both undergraduate and graduate courses, and strong engagement in a core curriculum that serves to define civil and environmental engineering for future generations.

Our department is deeply committed to creating and maintaining a welcoming and supportive environment for all our faculty, staff, and students since this contributes to robust exchanges of ideas and the development of each individual’s potential. Applications from women and underrepresented groups are enthusiastically encouraged. We aim to recruit, mentor, and retain the most talented and diverse faculty and staff and we recognize that this includes providing opportunities for employees to build a career and build a life at Iowa (https://worklife.uiowa.edu).
