2013 Hydrology, Ocean and Atmosphere Conference (HOAC 2013) will be held on September 20-22, 2013 in Beijing, China. This Conference will cover issues on Hydrology, Ocean and Atmosphere. It dedicates to creating a stage for exchanging the latest research results and sharing the advanced research methods.
Beijing has been the heart of China’s history for centuries, and there is scarcely a major building of any age in Beijing that does not have at least some national historical significance. The city is renowned for its opulent palaces, temples, and huge stone walls and gates. Its art treasures and universities have long made it a centre of culture and art in China.
We look forward to seeing you in Beijing! +
Welcome to ECSA’s next major symposium, ECSA 56 Coastal systems in transition: From a 'natural' to an 'anthropogenically-modified' state, which will take place from the 4-7 September 2016 in Bremen, Germany.
Humans are drivers of and affected by global change. Human-induced global climate and regional environmental change dramatically modify the structures and functions of coastal systems driving them into a new system state. The altered resource potentials and ecosystem services then, in turn, significantly affect the livelihoods of the population.
Distinguishing between natural and anthropogenic control factors and quantifying their impacts is a major challenge in the investigation of hydrodynamic, sedimentological, biogeochemical, ecological and socioeconomic processes in the coastal zone.
Inter- and transdisciplinary efforts are required to gain a profound understanding of these "novel" systems, which provides the basis for a sustainable management.
ECSA 56 brings together a global multi-disciplinary community of researchers and professionals to discuss and address issues of outstanding scientific importance in the science and management of estuaries and coastal seas in this rapidly changing world. +

With the completion of the Chesapeake Bay Program’s 2017 mid-point assessment of the EPA’s Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) regulatory process, it is timely to convene a symposium aimed at examining the observations and models that were used in that assessment and discuss future needs and challenges for the next one in 2025 and beyond. There is a need for higher temporal resolution measurements and higher spatial resolution models. Research should be focused on developing a better mechanistic understanding about and models of physical, biological and chemical processes in the airshed, watershed and estuary. Additionally, more flexible sampling and modeling approaches are also needed for resolving management impacts on water quality and living resources over a wide range of scales. +
With this year's conference theme, we endeavor to connect science and society in the collective goals of preserving the coastal and estuarine habitats, resources, and heritage. Through the conference, we will discuss the nature of research agendas that are directed at finding and solving problems, and how to engage stakeholders in that process. Our goal is to balance a natural and social scientific agenda with the food, music, and art emblematic of the Gulf Coast. In keeping with tradition, we hope to create a seriously fun and memorable 25th Biennial CERF Conference. +
Within the Topo-Europe framework, the ITN SUBITOP organises a workshop on understanding subduction zone topography through modelling of coupled shallow and deep processes.
TOPO-EUROPE promotes, coordinates and integrates national research programs on geological surface processes and their implications for continental topography and natural hazards in a coherent European network. SUBITOP is an ITN for training and career development of 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESR) in Geodynamics, Geophysics, Geology and Geomorphology. It has a scientific focus on the dynamics of continental margins where tectonic plates are recycled through subduction.
'''Theme'''<br>
Tectonic activity and topographic evolution are intimately linked. This is most powerfully expressed in subduction systems, where geodynamic and geomorphic processes are connected across depths and time scales from individual earthquakes to climate-driven erosion, plate deformation and slab-mantle interactions. The imprint of all these processes and their links is not only found in the surface topography of subduction systems, but also in their exposed geology and patterns of deformation with attendant hazards. Understanding of the dynamics of subduction systems is advanced by the combined reading of these geophysical, geologic and geomorphic imprints, complemented by physical and numerical modelling. +
