Hiring up to 3 postdocs and 1 PhD student, University of Minnesota
University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, Minnesota, United States
Start reviewing process: 22 December 2023

We are expanding our group at the University of Minnesota by up to two (or perhaps three) postdocs, and may also be interested in bringing in a PhD student.

Postdoc positions: Fluvial geomorphology and wetland hydrology.

  • Fluvial processes, especially bedrock erosion and river-network dynamics, with field investigations centered around the Lake Superior basin. This is part of a large collaborative project.
  • Wetland health and restoration by implementing recent algorithms to study drainage-ditch impacts on water storage through the landscape.

See the attached flyer for more information and links to apply, and please feel free to contact me as well regarding any interest.

Understanding that individuals' expertise may differ, I am also open to hiring in ways that enable creative blends of these two themes, potentially augmented by questions surrounding paleolakes and global paleohydrology. In such cases, apply using the link for the position that you feel to be most applicable to your expertise and interests.

Start dates are flexible.

Possible additional postdoc: Riverine habitat & geomorphology.

There may be a near-future opening within a collaborative effort to study the hydrology, ecology, and geomorphology of the upper Mississippi River. This would involve data and future predictions into evolving habitats through and along the upper Mississippi, including significant and rapid geomorphic and ecosystem change. Please contact Jeff Houser (jhouser@usgs.gov), Colin Belby (cbelby@uwlax.edu), and myself if you are interested.

Possible PhD opening

If any of the above work interests you but you are looking for a graduate program rather than a postdoc, please feel free to reach out. Our official application deadline is 15 December, but we may be able to accommodate later applications this year.

Best wishes to all -- and perhaps see you at AGU or Gilbert Club,
Andy
