Lucrative PhD scholarships are available for students with skills in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering and/or earth sciences. A number of projects are available studying physical and chemical issues associated with water movement through heterogeneous geological materials. Projects include groundwater flow through faults and dykes, managed aquifer recharge in mining environments, water quality of mine pit lakes, and other issues related to mining and mine closure. Projects are part of a multi-million dollar collaboration between Flinders University, University of Western Australia, the West Australian Government and Rio Tinto Iron Ore, and supported through the Australian Research Council. Projects will combine field investigations in established or prospective mine sites with start-of-the-art computer modelling. Successful candidates will be based at Flinders University, Adelaide, and will join a dynamic research environment within the NCGRT, which is Australia’s leading groundwater research and training institution. Tax free scholarships of up to $40,000 per year are available, together with generous project support, including for conference travel and professional development.
