NCED and CSDMS taught the Summer Institute on Earth-Surface Dynamics for 30 graduate students and young faculty. The 2011 topic was 'Coastal processes and delta evolution' and students learned from worldwide experts on the state-of-the-art understanding of these processes. The course took place at the St. Anthony Falls laboratory. Students were able to design an physical tank experiment, simulating a delta prograding into a basin with several sea level cycles. Another highlight was hands-on computer modeling to learn about validation of hydrological models, to learn about the effects of damming on coasts and how to all run these simulations on a remote supercomputer. It all came together on a last day of student presentations and last numerical model simulations. See here:[[SummerInstitute2011|Impressions of the Summer Institute 2011]]
