The 2020 pandemic inspired many people to seek new jobs where they could turn their passion projects into a full-time career. Here at ICF we work on passion projects all the time, from helping convert America to clean energy such as solar and offshore wind to supporting efforts to reduce flooding and wildfire risk in local communities. ICF’s multidisciplinary Ecosystem Restoration and Landscape Architecture Practice includes ecologists, landscape architects, geomorphologists, engineers, and other technical experts who work collaboratively with our clients to plan, design, and implement projects that aid in the recovery of aquatic and terrestrial species, improve climate resilience, and provide opportunities for people to connect with nature.  Our work is often challenging, but never boring, and makes a difference! And as important as our work is to us, we also value and support a healthy work-life balance. Click the link below to learn more about our Restoration work.

  • Lead/contribute to the design of floodplain restoration, bank protection, instream grade control, fish passage structures at roadway crossings, side channels, dike breaches, and large woody material habitat structures.
  • Lead hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for fish passage improvement, floodplain and channel restoration planning and design, and FEMA no-rise studies.
  • Oversee preparation of construction documents including plans, engineer’s estimate of probable cost, technical specifications, and basis of design reports.
  • Support obtaining environmental permits for project construction, working with permit specialists to provide necessary design project data and reports.
  • Lead development of proposals, including scopes of work, schedules, and budgets.
  • Mentor junior engineers and restoration designers.
  • Be a positive, curious, organized, innovative, committed, self-motivated, and supportive addition to our local office environment and regional practice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, or Ecological Engineering; Geomorphology; Landscape Architecture; or Hydrology.
  • 10+ years of experience leading the analysis and design of water resources and/or habitat restoration projects.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Strong working background in the following areas: hydrology, open channel hydraulics and environmental river mechanics, sediment transport analysis, fluvial and coastal geomorphology, coastal hydraulics, hydraulic structures, civil design, project and construction management, and site surveying.

  • A well-developed industry network with private and public sector clients and regulatory agency connections.
  • Strong business development acumen and an understanding of the market and an ability to identify and effectively position for and capture new project work for ICF.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (HEC Suite, EPA SWMM, SRH 2D, TUFLOW, or other), drafting (Civil 3D or Microstation), and geospatial analysis software (ArcGIS or QGIS).
  • Strong written, communication, and computer skills and attention to detail.
