My research focuses on river network modeling, particularly investigating the role of lithologic variability in controlling downstream sediment transport dynamics. I utilize the Landlab modeling framework, specifically the Network Sediment Transporter (NST) component, to simulate sediment pulse dynamics in mountain rivers. My work integrates field observations and numerical modeling to improve predictions of how sediment pulses, influenced by heterogeneity in abrasion rate and density, evolve as they propagate downstream. My primary CSDMS interests align with enhancing morphodynamic modeling capabilities by incorporating: Lagrangian tracking of sediment parcels with unique lithologic characteristics. Abrasion and transport-dependent attrition processes, improving how models represent in-place wear and selective transport. Heterogeneous sediment density effects on transport efficiency, addressing limitations in existing models that assume uniform particle properties. By refining the NST model within Landlab, I aim to improve its applicability for assessing sediment flux in response to extreme sediment supply events, such as mass wasting, volcanic eruptions, and dam removals, ultimately contributing to better hazard assessment and sediment management strategies.
