Syvitski Student Modeler Award 2025

From CSDMS

Postdoc Marie-Christin Wimmler, recipient of the 2025 Syvitski Student Modeler award
PostDoc, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Sciences, Institute of Forest Growth and Forest Computer Sciences, Technische Universität Dresden, Germany

Marie was awarded for her submission. "pyMANGA: A Modular, Open and Extendable Software Platform for Modelling Forest and Vegetation Dynamics" recently published in the journal Environmental Modelling and Software (2024). Her work introduces the pyMANGA modeling platform, which is designed to improve the study of vegetation dynamics and their response to environmental change by allowing researchers to reuse and/or easily extend existing vegetation growth concepts. This modular concept allows to easily access model robustness and to test different hypotheses systematically and efficiently. The current suite of modules in pyMANGA focuses on ecohydrological aspects, in particular the interactions between vegetation, soil and hydrology in coastal ecosystems.

Below is a list of relevant links to explore the pyMANGA modeling platform:
