Abstract
The variability of the water cycle causes extremes such as droughts and floods and these have an impact on society. In the past two decades with the advent of improved satellite sensors, modeling and in-situ observations, quantification of these extremes has become possible. This talk will be based on characterization of floods and droughts in global continental river basins that can be used for monitoring and lead to prediction of spatial distribution and temporal variability.
