One-line model description solves for the concentration of weathering products in a 1-d steady eroding hillslope soil column
Extended model description These files are used to solve the equations for steady state mineral concentration and soil thickness (equations 7 and 8 in Roering et al., 2023). The files are modified versions of those developed by Ferrier and West (2017). The modifications include accounting for the alteration of mineral phases and the production of secondary mineral phases. The numerical implementation otherwise follows that presented by Ferrier and West (2017).

Describe processes represented by the model These files are used to solve the equations for steady state mineral concentration and soil thickness (equations 7 and 8 in Roering et al., 2023, Biogeochemistry). The files are modified versions of those developed by Ferrier and West (2017). The modifications include accounting for the alteration of mineral phases and the production of secondary mineral phases. The numerical implementation otherwise follows that presented by Ferrier and West (2017).
Describe key physical parameters and equations The lag_parameters.m script is used to specify the model parameters described in this manuscript and follows the conventions of Ferrier and West (2017). The steadyq_nd_eqns.m script sets up the soil thickness and mineral concentration equations. Notably, the mineral concentration equations are mineral specific given that the allophane, plagioclase and kaolinite equations account for gains and/or losses as described in the text. The steadyq_nd.m script invokes the Matlab equation solver and outputs soil thickness and the mineral concentrations as well as additional weathering metrics used by Ferrier and West (2017) that are not invoked here. The steadyEplot.m routine sets up a recursive loop to solve for the mineral concentrations and soil thickness for an array of steady state erosion rate values specified by the user and generates a plot of E ̂ vs. Callo,s and a plot of E ̂ vs. all mineral concentrations. The pcm_2D.m script is used to calculate the the value of E ̂ associated with peak allophane (termed E ̂_max) and the peak concentration of allophane (termed Callo,s_max) for a range of parameter values of K ̂_(plag,allo) and K ̂_(allo,kaol).
