Marsh column model

Metadata

Also known as
Model type Single
Model part of larger framework
Note on status model
Date note status model
Spatial dimensions 1D
Spatial extent Point-Based
Model domain Coastal
One-line model description Simulates sediment, roots and carbon accumulating in a 1D marsh profile.
Extended model description A marsh column model designed to (ultimately) be inserted beneath spatially distributed marsh sedimentation models. Tracks surface biomass, subsurface root mass, carbon accumulation and decay (includes both labile and refractory carbon), inorganic sediments, and sediment compaction.
Keywords:

marsh profile, sediment dynamics,

Describe processes represented by the model Sedimentation, compaction, root growth and death, carbon deposition, carbon decay
Describe key physical parameters and equations Many, see Mudd et al. (2009) ECSS v 82(3) 377-389

Describe time scale and resolution constraints Daily timestep.
Describe any numerical limitations and issues Model slows down as layers are added making long runs (>2000 years) impractical.
