One-line model description LORICA is a process-based soil-landscape evolution model (SLEM)
Extended model description The LORICA model is a process-based soil-landscape evolution model that simulates how topography and soil layers co-evolve simultaneously over long timescales. It achieves this by coupling lateral geomorphic processes like water erosion and soil creep with vertical pedogenic processes such as weathering and bioturbation. Notably, the framework features a dynamic layering system that tracking shifting soil textures (sand, silt, clay) to simulate complex feedbacks like surface armouring and selective erosion.
