Also known as Floodwater Depth Estimation Tool
Model type Tool
Model part of larger framework
Note on status model
Date note status model
Incorporated models or components:
Spatial dimensions 2D
Spatial extent Watershed-Scale, Reach-Scale
Model domain Terrestrial, Hydrology, Coastal
One-line model description Calculate floodwater depth based on an inundation polygon (e.g. from remote sensing) and a DEM
Extended model description Allow for quick estimation of water depths within a flooded domain using only the flood extent layer (polygon) and a DEM of the area. Useful for near-real-time flood analysis, especially from remote sensing mapping.

Version 2.0 offers improved capabilities in coastal areas.

Describe processes represented by the model Calculate water depth from a flood extent polygon (e.g. from remote sensing analysis) based on an underlying DEM.

Program procedure: 1. Flood extent polygon to polyline 2. Polyline to Raster - DEM extent and resolution (Env) 3. Con - DEM values to Raster 4. Focal Statistics loop 5. Water depth calculation - difference between Focal Statistics output and DEM
