One-line model description Amanzi is a parallel, multi-physics subsurface flow and reactive transport simulator designed for modeling groundwater contamination and environmental remediation at e.g. DOE waste sites.
Extended model description Amanzi solves coupled flow and reactive transport in variably-saturated, non-isothermal porous media using advanced discretizations (finite volume, mimetic finite differences) on general polyhedral meshes. It interfaces with geochemistry engines (PFLOTRAN, CrunchFlow) via the Alquimia API, and uses scalable parallel solvers from Trilinos and PETSc. Its multiphysics framework (Arcos) supports flexible hierarchical coupling of processes across mixed dimensions, enabling applications from discrete fracture networks to integrated surface–subsurface hydrology.
