Please forward this announcement to potential graduate students!
The Coastal Ecogeomorphology Lab (https://valentinelab336.wixsite.com/valentine-lab) at the University of Washington School of Oceanography (https://www.ocean.washington.edu/) is seeking applicants for a PhD student to join the group in Fall 2027.
Potential research topics include:
- quantitative salt marsh and/or mudflat geomorphology (including modeling and field work)
- understanding the physical and geological dynamics associated with intertidal aquaculture and impacts on the carbon cycle
- lab experiments focused on small-scale processes of mud entrainment and bio-physical interactions at the threshold of motion (biofilms).
My lab is a fun group that combines field work, numerical modeling, remote sensing, and laboratory experiments to understand coastal change. PhD students will be exposed to this broad array of methods, as well as interdisciplinary coursework and scientific approach. Interested students should apply through the UW Graduate School (https://www.ocean.washington.edu/story/How_to_Apply). The deadline for applying for the UW School of Oceanography PhD program is December 1. When applying, I suggest that you select "Marine Geology and Geophysics" as the area of study/branch of oceanography for most direct routing of your application to me (even though your interests may be interdisciplinary).
