Postdoctoral Research Position – Mexican Subduction Zone

The Institute of Geography and the Tsunami & Paleoseismology Laboratory at UNAM invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant position within the project:

“Spatial and Temporal Variations of Upper Plate Deformation across the Mexican Subduction Zone” & "TACOS-II project “Coastal Tectonics along the Mexican Convergent Margin: An Integrated Research Approach”

The project investigates upper plate deformation, paleoseismic records, earthquakes, and tsunami hazards along the Mexican subduction margin. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary and international research team led by Maria Teresa Ramírez-Herrera.


Research Areas

We especially encourage applicants with experience in:

  • Active tectonics & earthquake geology
  • Paleoseismology & tsunami deposits
  • Coastal/tectonic geomorphology
  • Geochronology, GIS, or geodynamic modeling
  • Field stratigraphy and laboratory analyses

Requirements

  • Ph.D. obtained within the last 5 years in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Geomorphology, or related fields
  • Publications in SCI-indexed journals
  • Strong interdisciplinary research interest

Position Details

  • Duration: 12 months (renewable for a second year)
  • Competitive salary + health insurance
  • Based in Mexico City, Mexico
