PhD Position in Civil and Environmental Engineering in Australia
Monash University, , Australia
Start reviewing process: 15 March 2026

I am currently recruiting a PhD student for the GIWaQ (Green Infrastructure and Water Quality) Group at Monash University (Melbourne, Australia).

The student will be fully funded (stipend of 37,145 AUD p.a.) and will sit in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The project explores the impact of past human activities on current water quality. This is an opportunity to work at the interface of hydrology, biogeochemistry and historical studies.

You’ll do field work – taking sediment cores from lakes, analysing sediment samples for nutrient concentrations and finally modelling the impact of past agricultural practices on the water quality of today.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Likes to get their hands dirty (and muddy) and is not afraid of lab work
  • Enjoys solving problems using an interdisciplinary framework
  • Is comfortable coding (R/Python)
  • Wants their research to make a difference
