From CSDMS
PhD position in Isotope Hydrology at TU Dresden, Germany
TU Dresden, , Germany
Apply before: 5 January 2026

I am looking for an enthusiastic PhD candidate in isotope hydrology.

My Chair of Forest Sites and Hydrology represents the field matter and water cycling in forests. Research focuses on the challenges of global change for the establishment, transformation and management of forests linked to matter and water cycles.

The aim of this PhD position is to contribute to research focusing on isotope (eco)hydrology with a focus on water and isotope fluxes through forests. Tasks encompass field data collection of relevant ecohydrological fluxes in Saxon (DE) forest stands – both natural and reduced stem density stands. The aim is to determine the influence of management on the water supply of forests. This will be followed by a model-based assessment of the water cycle with a focus on hydroclimatic extremes (e.g., drought periods). The PhD Student will be able to further develop their own scientific profile, e. g. through courses offered by TUD’s graduate academy; as well as supervise BSc/MSc students under the professional responsibility of the chairholder.

Looking forward to your application.

Best,

Natalie
