PhD topic on Quantifying the impact of climate change on extreme hydrological events

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the Hydrological and Climate Variability Group at the Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague starting in autumn 2024. The PhD research will contribute to the understanding how climate change affects extreme weather events. Particular attention will be given to the impacts of extreme weather events on the hydrological cycle (regional to global scale). The candidate should have an MSc degree in environmental science, hydrology, meteorology, climatology or equivalent.

We seek candidates with:

  • Sound programming/scripting skills (e.g., R, Python).
  • A big advantage would be the ability to work with large-scale datasets and familiarity with netCDF format is appreciated.
  • Interest and good knowledge of statistics.
  • Familiarity with basic hydrologic and climate characteristics.
  • Fluent English.

The PhD candidate will be requested to write scientific publications and present results at international conferences. International collaboration is expected within the PhD project (e.g. Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Germany).
