Research Associate in Environmental Science
University of Virginia, Virginia, United States
Start reviewing process: 14 August 2023

The Department of Environmental Science at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Prof. Larry Band. The postdoc will work with Prof. Larry Band to study the ecohydrology of forest and urban watersheds, including coupled water, carbon and nitrogen cycling processes, and the development of advanced modeling and data science tools.

The Band Research Group is advancing the state of the art in the watershed science and management, and developing mechanistic models and data analysis to investigate co-benefits and trade-offs of alternative management strategies. The successful applicant will focus on forest and urban watershed resilience, and the use of ecohydrologic principles as design guidelines for developing more sustainable urban and rural landscapes.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a PhD in Environmental Science or a related field by the start date. Experience in ecohydrologic modeling with the Regional HydroEcological Simulation System and associated Python workflows, GIS, and machine learning methods are required. Preferred qualifications include experience with simulation and data analysis of urban and forest watersheds, and the effectiveness of developing green infrastructure.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs and attach a cover letter indicating your research interests in the Band Lab, a detailed curriculum vitae, and the contact information for three individuals who can provide professional reference letters.
