Postdoctoral position in Earth and planetary surface processes

The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University Virginia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successful candidate will lead original research in the field of Earth and planetary surface processes under the supervision of Dr. Ajay B. Limaye. Potential research topics include but are not limited to landscape evolution modeling, linking turbulent flow in rivers to landscape dynamics, and interpreting remote sensing datasets for Mars and Titan.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. degree in geoscience, planetary science, or a related discipline is required by the appointment start date. The candidate must have effective interpersonal skills and facility with scientific writing and programming-based data analysis (e.g., using MATLAB or Python). Ideal preparation for the position includes ability to work independently, experience managing undergraduate researchers, and familiarity with geospatial datasets. The successful candidate will be expected to analyze and manage data; disseminate research findings through journal publications and conference presentations; co-develop proposals for external funding; and contribute collegially to the research group and an interdisciplinary department. Dr. Limaye will work with the successful candidate to create an individual development plan to work toward career objectives and leverage resources for professional development within the University.
