From CSDMS
Ph.D. Positions in Hydrology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Nebraska, United States
Start reviewing process: 11 October 2019

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has two Ph.D. openings in the area of hydrology and water resources. The first project will focus on developing operational platforms for flood and drought forecasting using a wide variety of datasets, including satellite-based observations, model-based estimates, and in-situ measurements. It is important that the candidate has excellent programming skills, preferably in MATLAB and/or Python, and a strong background in mathematics and statistics. The second position will focus on modeling human-water interactions at different time-scales over different regions. One of the goals in this project would be to develop a socio-hydrology modeling framework that can help us improve water resources management practices. The candidates will get ample opportunities to explore new ideas within the scope of the projects.

The Department of Civil Engineering has a rich history of over 140 years. Students graduating from the department will get a degree in Civil Engineering. Interested candidates are encouraged to send their CV and a research plan to Tirthankar Roy (roy@unl.edu). Include your past and current research experience along with the future research plans. The projects will involve programming quite extensively. Therefore, make sure to discuss your programming expertise in the research statement. You can talk about one prior work where you had to do a good amount of programming.
