New Flood Centre @UniofHull, recruiting 9 posts
University of Hull, , United Kingdom
Start reviewing process: 30 June 2019

We have 9 posts presently advertised as part of our launch of a new Flood Innovation Centre (FLIC) at the University of Hull, UK. This is part of a wider focus on Flooding at the University of Hull, where we are seeking to establish a larger National Centre and Facility (http://arkfloodcentre.co.uk) and also forms part of the wider Living with Water work within the region (https://livingwithwater.co.uk).

See below for links to the FLIC jobs and more information on how to apply. Feel free to drop myself and/or Dr Rob Thomas (r.e.thomas@hull.ac.uk) an email for an informal discussion on the posts and the centre and its aims.

Flooding is a significant and growing problem regionally, nationally and internationally. Hull and Humberside is the second most flood-prone region in the UK, with 205,000 properties, 32,500 businesses and 115,000 hectares of prime land at risk of tidal, fluvial or surface water flooding. In the UK, 5.2 million homes and other properties (more than one sixth of the total) are at risk of flooding. Climate change and sea level rise projections suggest that our climate will become stormier, yielding more frequent heavy rainfall events, and that sea levels around the UK will rise by 0.35 m by 2060 and 1.0 m by 2100.

The University is now recruiting the Flood Innovation Centre (FLIC) team to develop and commercialise innovative new products, services and processes addressing flood resilience in the broadest sense. The full team will comprise one Project Manager, one Business Development Manager, three Technical Research Managers, two post-doctoral Researchers, one Finance and Audit Officer and one Administration Officer.
