The Department of Geosciences in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the research group of Dr. John Shaw. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will use various techniques to investigate the dynamic of complex channel networks on river deltas, and other duties as assigned.
The is a one-year appointment, renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in earth sciences, physics, engineering, or a related field conferred by the start of employment
- Experience in the study of channelized flow, unchannelized flow, or complex networks
- Demonstrated analytical skills using mathematics and programming languages (Python, Matlab)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Knowledge of modeling and quantitative analysis using Python or Matlab
- Knowledge and expertise in statistics, physical sedimentology, and laboratory experiments
- Ability to construct numerical models of physical processes and test the model against data
